Amid the pageantry of this year's Cannes Film Festival, one Australian film is marking a major milestone.

In 1955 an ambitious story about an Indigenous girl's search for identity was selected to compete for the festival's biggest prize.

Now, six decades later "Jedda" has returned to Cannes for a special screening.
