Former Labor Premier Morris Iemma is the latest member of the independent body charged with overseeing planning decisions across Sydney.

Mr Iemma and the former general manager of Camden Council, Sheridan Dudley, were appointed as the final two district commissioners for the Greater Sydney Commission, Planning Minister Rob Stokes announced on Friday.

The pair would play a critical role in representing and creating plans for the south and southwest districts of Sydney, Mr Stokes said.

The commission, which is led by the prime minister's wife, Lucy Turnbull, has the support of NSW Labor but the Greens say it removes the democratic process from the local government level.
