I'll stay as shadow treasurer: Chris Bowen

Labor's Chris Bowen won't confirm speculation about colleagues but he's already been assured of keeping his shadow portfolio.

He's keeping mum on the future of colleagues, but Chris Bowen already knows he'll remain shadow treasurer.

The Labor frontbencher is refusing to confirm speculation Kim Carr could be dumped from the opposition frontbench in favour of newly-elected Linda Burney.

Mr Bowen was deflecting the internal "gossip", insisting all would be revealed on Friday when the ALP caucus meets in Canberra.

"The one thing I know is I'm putting myself forward ... and Bill Shorten's indicated that I will continue as shadow treasurer," he told ABC radio.

Asked whether Labor will have more female frontbenchers, he said: "I hope so and believe so."
