Recalled Ashton Agar says he's an allrounder and would back himself to bat in the top seven, if he makes the Australian team for the final cricket Test against Pakistan.
Left-arm spinner Agar shot to fame on his Test debut in 2013, when he scored 98 batting at No.11 against England at Trent Bridge, but hasn't added to the two games he played on that tour.
While acknowledging he's been recalled to the squad primarily as a bowler, Agar is keen to avoid being seen as a one-trick pony.
He has tallied two first-class hundreds since his Test debut near miss and averages 26 over his career.
Agar batted as high as five for WA this season, though he is only averaging 19 in the current campaign.
"I see myself as an allrounder, I guess I've been selected into this squad as a spinner, but I think I'm capable with bat and ball," Agar said on Saturday.
Asked if he could see himself batting in the top seveen for Australia, Agar said "I think I would be able to.
"If I was given that opportunity, I'd back myself to do that.
"The best players, they consistently make good decisions. All the batters have the skills, but what separates them is who makes better decisions."
Three years on from his only Tests, Agar is happy with his progress since his heady introduction to international cricket.
'i think that's probably one hard season I had after I played my first couple of Tests and that was a big learning curve for me, but the last couple of years have been great," he said.
"I feel good, I feel like my game is in a good place.
"I feel I've matured a lot as a player and I've been in this position before now, so I know what to expect from Test cricket, if that happens."
