In-form Indian attack keen to test Aussies

Spinner Krunal Pandya says India's attack surprised themselves by almost defending a modest total of 126 in the first Twenty20 against Australia.

Having come within a whisker of defending 126 in the first Twenty20 against Australia, India's attack are full of confidence as they prepare to test the tourists' new-look batting order in Bangalore.

Economical spells from spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya, coupled with two needless run-outs, put India in a strong position with one over to go in the dramatic tour-opening T20.

Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson ultimately scored 14 runs off the final over in Vizag to put Australia on the cusp of their first limited-overs series win in over a year.

But the fact the match went down to the final ball - despite a rare failure from India's top order - gave Pandya plenty of belief that his team will win the second T20 that stats at 1230am AEDT on Thursday.

"We didn't expect that we would almost be able to defend it," he said.

"A lot of positives when it comes to the bowling department ... it was a great bowling unit effort. Everyone chipped in.

"They were unlucky as well, two of their batsmen got run out, but we bowled well.

"We have been doing very well as a team. We have not been losing consecutive matches ... if I talk about momentum, it's with the Indian team and I'm pretty sure tomorrow as well as in the one-dayers we'll do well."

The rivals are playing a five-match ODI series, which starts in Hyderabad on Saturday and will serve as a key tune-up for this year's World Cup.

Pandya forecast a far more batsman-friendly pitch at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which was traditionally a batsman's paradise but in recent years has produced fewer run-fests in the Indian Premier League.

"The wicket looks good here. Obviously it'll be better than what it was in Vizag, so we expect more runs on this wicket," Pandya said.
