In-form Marsh lifts WA to crushing win

A Western Australia record 186 from Shaun Marsh has secured them a comfortable win in the one-day cup over the Cricket Australia XI.

Shaun Marsh has taken another step towards regaining his Test spot with record knock of 186 as Western Australia crushed the Cricket Australia XI by 246 runs.

The youthful CA XI were bowled out for just 101 off 27.3 overs, as holders WA reinvigorated their one-day cup campaign with victory and two bonus points, following three successive defeats.

The platform for the win was based around Marsh's expansive innings, which included six sixes and came off just 148 balls.

It is the highest individual one-day score for WA, eclipsing by ten the mark set by opening partner Cameron Bancroft just last week.

Marsh, who has now scored two centuries in four matches this season, says he hasn't thought about national team selection ahead of next month's first Test against New Zealand.

"I have just been putting more focus and energy into scoring runs for WA, said Marsh," who played a single Test for Australia in this year's Ashes series.

"If I score enough runs we can see what happens."

After being marooned at the bottom of the one-day ladder WA are suddenly in the hunt for a top-three finish, and a place in next week's finals.

WA also expect to welcome back Test quick Mitchell Johnson for their remaining matches.

"It was important to stamp our authority, and put in a really good performance and we did that," Marsh said.

"Hopefully we have gained a lot of confidence from this result, can build on it and make the finals."

WA medium-pacer AJ Tye (4-35) and spinner Ashton Agar (3-8) ran through the middle and lower order as the CA XI lost their final seven wickets for the addition of just 27 runs.

Opener Marcus Harris played a lone hand, carrying his bat for 44 not out, with the CA XI never in the hunt to chase down Warriors' 5-347.

"The last game was a really big step forward, but today felt a bit like a step backwards again," said Harris.

"There are still some good signs but it's disappointing to put in a performance like that."
