Mohamed Morsi, Egypt's first freely-elected president, has been ousted after mass protests across Egypt.

The announcement was made on state television by Morsi's own defence minister, army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. It drew a rapturous welcome from thousands of protesters across Cairo.

The Egyptian Army has cancelled the constitution and installed judge Adly al-Mansour as Morsi's interim replacement.

There have been reports Morsi has been detained in a military facility with top aides.
