In pictures: NAIDOC Week posters

Since 1972, an annual poster competition is held to determine the winning design to promote each year's NAIDOC week theme. Have a look back at the NAIDOC Week posters over the years.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) launched the first official NAIDOC poster competition in the mid 1990′s inviting entries from around the country.

Winners receive prize money (this year $5,000) as well as national exposure for their work.

Entrants are required to develop an artwork based on each year's NAIDOC Week themes. This year's theme is the Yirrkala Bark Petitions of 1963. Previous years have included 'Respect the Past-Believe in the Future' (2006) and 'Families are the basis of our existence' (1994).
