Increase in support for Hanson's One Nation in Queensland: Newspoll

Pauline Hanson's One Nation party is having an impact on the LNP in Queensland as the state readies for an election, the latest Newspoll shows.

The latest Newspoll shows a bump in support for Pauline Hanson's One Nation party in Queensland, which is is on the brink of a state election.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is downplaying the prospect of an early election, which isn't due until next year but could be called as soon as Tuesday for late November.

The outcome of the poll is expected to come down to preferences, with One Nation having a major impact.
On a two-party-preferred basis, the Newspoll published in The Australian has Labor on 52 per cent to the LNP's 48 per cent, down slightly from last month's survey which had Labor ahead 53-47.

The good news for Ms Palaszczuk is that Labor's primary vote has steadied at 37 per cent, while One Nation has taken support from the Liberal National Party.

One Nation now has 16 per cent primary support, but that will be much higher in some regional areas where it will go head-to-head with the LNP for the conservative vote.
The LNP's primary vote is down to 34 per cent from the 41.3 per cent it secured at the 2015 election.

Ms Palaszczuk still has a 10-point lead over LNP leader Tim Nicholls as preferred premier.
