Opener Rohit Sharma smashed 83 runs from 55 balls as India made a winning start to the T20 Asia Cup competition with a comprehensive 45-run victory over Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Sharma helped India recover from a shaky start to rack up a challenging 6-166 after his side was sent in to bat first on a green track.

India's rejuvenated bowling attack then restricted Bangladesh to 7-121 in reply, with Ashish Nehra returning figures of 3-23.

Sharma's knock was complemented by Hardik Pandya's 31 as the duo plundered 69 runs in the last five overs to leave Bangladesh with a daunting task.

Sabbir Rahman top-scored for Bangladesh with 44 runs.
