Mohammed Shami won't be part of India's limited overs tour of Australia after the paceman again injured his hamstring before bowling a ball in the warm-up matches at the WACA Ground.

Shami injured his hamstring during the World Cup last year and underwent surgery upon returning to India in March.

He returned to domestic cricket last month and was named in the squad for the tour of Australia that includes five one-day and three Twenty20 internationals.

While warming up for the opening tour match against a WA XI on Friday, he sustained a grade two hamstring injury and didn't play in that match, which India won by 74 runs.

He also didn't play in Saturday's one-day match against a similar WA XI and will return home to India - he is expected to miss six weeks through the injury.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has confirmed his place on the tour will be taken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

It could open the door for the uncapped Barinder Sran to play in the opening one-day clash with Australia on Tuesday at the WACA Ground.

With veteran quick Ishant Sharma also yet to bowl in the warm-up games, Sran has impressed taking two wickets in Friday's Twenty20 hit out.

Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan was impressed with the left-armer's early form in Australia.

"It was a great boost for Bari. I feel it's a great boost for him to get two wickets in his first practice game," Dhawan said.

"In time he is going to experience and mature more. He looks very fit and strong, and like a very good prospect for the India team."
