Indian dancing bride’s unconventional video takes off online

Amisha Bhardwaj didn't set out to challenge the cultural norm of the 'shy bride', but her video seen by more than seven million people to date, has done just that.

Newlywed Amisha Bhardwaj from New Dehli in India told 'Hindustan Times' she was annoyed when she learned her groom, Pranav, would be late to their wedding.

'It was a beachside wedding and I wanted it to be perfect," she said.

The wedding photography company, CoolBluez, which they employed to capture their special day, suggested Amisha use her spare time to dance.

Dressed in a diamante-studded, pink floral lehenga top and white hot pants, Amisha lip-synced and danced with her bridal party to the pop hit 'Cheap Thrills' by Australian artist Sia.

In the video, the bride-to-be lip-syncs as she gets her makeup done. In another shot we see Amisha in fashion sunglasses and her three friends outside a beachside resort doing some choreographed moves.

At the time of publication, the video had more than seven million views on YouTube.

Indian brides typically adopt a shy and sombre demeanor at their weddings, but Amisha's video has turned this cultural protocol on its head.

Amisha told 'BBC News' she was "still surprised" that the video took off.

But she added she believed it was popular because it broke away from the norm.

"[An Indian bride] is not supposed to dance, and definitely not wear the kind of clothes I am wearing in the video," she said.

"Now the modern Indian bride is writing her own script."
