The Indian Film Festival kicked off in Sydney, with directors hoping to shine a light on a hidden side of the world's largest film industry, Leroy Ah Ben reports.

Organisers say the 11-day film festival will be a lot more than a musical extravaganza.

The festival, which opened in Sydney tonight, will open in Melbourne this Friday and in Adelaide on the 22nd of March.
