Corey Kluber pitched seven scoreless innings as the Cleveland Indians toppled the Boston Red Sox 6-0 at Progressive Field to take a 2-0 lead in their Major League Baseball American League Division Series match-up.

Lonnie Chisenhall's three-run homer capped a four-run second frame for the home team as they put themselves firmly in the ascendancy ahead of the trip to Boston for Sunday's (Monday AEDT) game three.

In Texas, Toronto saw off the Rangers 5-3 to also go 2-0 up in their best-of-five AL Division Series.

Troy Tulowitzki's two-run homer in the second inning got the Blue Jays on the board and Kevin Pillar, Ezequiel Carrera and Edwin Encarnacion all went deep in the fifth to put the visitors in control.

Jon Lester threw eight solid innings and Javier Baez homered in the eighth as the Chicago Cubs defeated the San Francisco Giants 1-0 in game one of their National League Division Series match-up at Wrigley Field.

And rookie Corey Seager and Justin Turner crushed their first post-season homers to spur the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals in their NL Division Series opener at Nationals Park.
