The stars were out in Perth on Friday for this year's National NAIDOC Awards ceremony.
The gala followed a week of events across the country to celebrate the contributions and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
Land rights activist Galarrwuy Yunupingu was named the winner of the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award for his unwavering commitment to Yirrkala law and country.
Last year's NAIDOC Person of the Year David Wirrpanda passed on his mantle to fellow Noongar man Darryl Kickett, describing the moment as “an honour.”
Mr Kickett's achievements included a 40-year career working across health, education, community development and Aboriginal policy.
Yalangi and Tagalaga woman Rose Richards was crowned Female Elder of the Year.
“This is the first time I've seen my mother stuck for words,” her daughter said after Ms Richards accepted the award.
More than 1200 guests attended the event at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, including Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin and Professor Michael Dodson.
