Stefan Armruster reports from Townsville, where Indigenous people from across the country gathered to remember Eddie Mabo, alongside many from his home island.
Eddie Koiki Mabo from the Torres Strait island of Mer rewrote Australia's history when he proved Indigenous people had customary property rights, with a ruling overturning 'terra nullius' -- that Australia's colonisers settled vacant land.
A conference on how Australia's native title laws can be improved is being held in Townsville from the 4-6 June.
