Across the country, Catholics are gearing up to celebrate an important milestone, in particular indigenous communities who MacKillop worked with tirelessly throughout her life.
These communities are now honouring her legacy and vision to support the access for less fortunate communities to good education, a legacy still growing 150 years later.

With only days before the sainthood is bestowed upon MacKillop, some of those blessed by MacKillop's work are now going to be part of the proceedings.
"I think it will be something that will go down in history. Nothing will ever match up to it," Said Rachael Balcolm, a student of MacKillop's order, the Sisters of St Joseph.
In the lead up to her canonisation Mary MacKillop is being hailed as a saint for all Australians, but certainly she's a saint for many first Australians.
