An Indigenous mural, 16 years in the making, has finally been unveiled in an inner Sydney suburb.

Called 'Kurrilwan', the mural which sends a message of friendship and sharing proudly adorns the wall at the Peter Forsyth Auditorium, next to the Broadway Shopping Centre in Glebe.

The name 'Kurrilwan' is the Gamilaraay word for the home of Baiame the Maker and the mural tells the story of Yooneeara who sets out on a journey of initiation, magic and discovery as he makes his way to Baiame's home.

Students at Glebe Primary School first thought up the idea of Kurrilwan in 1997 as a project for Reconciliation Day.

Since then, Aboriginal and community artists, local Indigenous children and school students all joined in to create the lasting message of cultural diversity and community harmony.
