Indon deal in 'near future': minister

Trade Minister Steven Ciobo says the Australian government is still working closely with Indonesia on a free trade agreement.

Australia and Indonesia are still negotiating a free trade agreement despite missing a Christmas deadline, Trade Minister Steve Ciobo says.

The agreement had not been concluded late last year because "the deal wasn't right", but negotiators remained highly engaged with goodwill on both sides, Mr Ciobo said.

"I'm hopeful we'll be able to conclude a high-quality agreement in the near future," Mr Ciobo told reporters in Canberra on Monday.
