Indonesia's move follows concerns over allegedly offensive material seen at its training school in Perth.
Professor Tim Lindsey is director of the Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society at the University of Melbourne's law school.
He says the relationship between Australian and Indonesia is often volatile, the most recent stoush being over wiretaps leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden, revealing that Australia spied on an American law firm representing Indonesia in a trade dispute with the United States in 2013.
Professor Lindsey says that matter caused a serious rift in the relationship but this incident is not yet at that level.
He's speaking here to Andrea Booth.
