With thousands of people affected by the eruption of Mount Merapi and the Mentawais island tsunami, here is how you can help.

SURFAID INTERNATIONAL

SurfAid is delivering emergency relief supplies and assessing the needs of the people who have been affected by the tsunami. You can donate online or call 1800 257 957

Plan International Australia maintains the Children in Crisis Fund to respond to such situations. The fund provides ongoing finances in response to the needs of children and communities affected by disasters around the world. To donate, phone 13 7526 or 03 9672 3600 or donate online

MUSLIM AID

Muslim Aid Australia will be launching an appeal in the following days, for information phone 1 800 100 786 and check the website

AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS

The Australian Red Cross is currently monitoring the situation and will respond accordingly if their Indonesian colleagues request assistance. Updates will be found on the Red Cross website

UNICEF AUSTRALIA

UNICEF is currently monitoring the situation. Whilst not a direct appeal, people can donate to the Emergency Healthcare and Supplies Appeal.

OXFAM AUSTRALIA

Oxfam's International Crisis Fund is open for donations; this enables Oxfam to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies around the world.

To donate, phone 1800 034 034 or donate online.

CARITAS AUSTRALIA

Caritas Australia is looking to respond to the tsunami in Indonesia and will do so drawing on their Emergency Response Funds rather than opening a special appeal.
