Indonesia's Joko to meet Obama

President Joko Widodo will meet President Barack Obama in a bid to persuade American companies to invest in Southeast Asia's biggest economy.

Indonesia's leader is making his first official visit to the US since sweeping to power a year ago.

President Joko Widodo will meet President Barack Obama on Monday, and also talk with US business leaders in Washington and Silicon Valley.

It's being seen as a chance to build a rapport with a US president with personal ties to his country, and to persuade American companies that he'll make it easier to invest in Southeast Asia's biggest economy.

Indonesian officials say deals valued at $US19.5 billion ($A27.05 billion) are due to be announced, including joint projects between Indonesian state utilities and US firms in the power sector.

Obama lived in Indonesia as a child. He visited the country twice during his first term, building up America's ties with Asia.
