The Mount Soputan volcano on Indonesia's Sulawesi island has erupted, sending ash three kilometres into the sky, the country's disaster management agency says.
There were no reports of casualties and the ash was not considered a threat to aviation, agency spokesman Sutopo Nugroho said on Sunday.
The alert level for the 1785-metre-high volcano remained at one notch above normal, with an exclusion zone of four kilometres, Sutopo said.
"There have been constant tremors and thundering sounds," he said.
Indonesia sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area known for seismic upheavals and volcanic eruptions.
The country is home to 127 active volcanoes.
