Industrial fight continues for Qld workers

There is no end in sight for the bitter and ongoing dispute between the Qld government and the public service union over a wage deal for 60,000 workers.

Queensland's industrial umpire has reserved its decision on whether to allow the state government to boycott the union on its latest pay offer.

The Together union and the government have been fighting for months in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) over the core wage agreement, which covers about 60,000 workers.

They rejected a 2.35 per cent pay offer each year for three years in December 2012.

The government recently lowered its offer to 2.2 per cent, and asked the commission to directly ballot workers.

A spokesman for Minister Assisting the Premier Glen Elmes told AAP the QIRC on Monday reserved its decision to a date yet to be fixed.

The union will rally outside parliament on Tuesday over the pay offer, saying it's pitiful compared to the 42 per cent recently given to MPs.
