The PlayStation 4 really needs a great game right about now. Sadly, Infamous: Second Son isn't it.
It's been five months since Sony's powerful new machine arrived on store shelves but we've had depressingly little to play on it.
The disappointing launch lineup didn't last long and since then we've had nothing more than a few indie titles to keep us going.
Infamous: Second Son was meant to be the big budget exclusive title that would get us excited about the PS4 all over again.
And it certainly looks the part.
Along with last year's Killzone: Shadow Fall, Infamous: Second Son mounts a convincing case for the graphical grunt of the PS4.
The rain-soaked Seattle setting is breathtaking, the character animation terrific, and the lighting and particle effects astounding.
But nothing else about Infamous will amaze you.
The story is dull and the main character - punkish hipster Delsin - is an annoying douche. Having said that, at least he has something of a personality, unlike the instantly forgettable Cole McGrath of the first two games on the PS3.
The campaign is short - about 10 hours - and the side-missions boring and repetitive. And maybe we've been spoiled by the scale and creativity of games like Grand Theft Auto 5, but Infamous' open world feels small and lifeless by comparison.
The combat is hit and miss - sometimes fun, more often frustrating - the boss fights are irritating and the moral choices lack nuance and consequence. It feels like the game was rushed to meet a deadline, rather than polished until it was truly finished.
OVERALL: If you're desperate for something to play on your shiny new PS4, Infamous: Second Son could give you a few hours of fun - but not much more.
Infamous: Second Son is available now, exclusive to PlayStation 4.
