Infant contracts meningococcal in Tasmania

A 10-month-old is in Launceston General Hospital after contracted the B strain of meningococcal.

A baby is recovering in Launceston General Hospital after contracting meningococcal, Tasmania's second case in several weeks.

The 10-month-old has the B strain, the state's health department said in a statement on Friday.

It comes after a man in his 60s from the Huon Valley contracted the W strain in late March.

Health authorities are urging those aged between six weeks and 20 years to get the state-funded meningococcal ACWY vaccine.
