Australian snowboard cross star Belle Brockhoff believes she can compete at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in February despite rupturing her ACL.
The Sochi Olympian had surgery in Melbourne on Thursday after sustaining the knee injury while training for a World Cup event in France last week.
"I will be giving it my very best to come back since I know I'll regret it if I don't," Brockhoff said in a statement.
"I'm not giving up on the dream so easily."
The 24-year-old, who also has chipped cartilage in her knee, spent much of this year recovering from a torn ACL.
She said in an Instagram post after her latest setback that she didn't believe she had returned too early.
"I felt really good during training and fast. Unfortunately the weather came in making it really hard to see the features where I made a mistake and crashed," Brockhoff said last week.
" ... it was just a unlucky situation which I will take ownership of."
Australian Chef de Mission Ian Chesterman said there were risks involved in Brockhoff's recovery efforts.
"Her medical team have put a plan in place to treat the injury to give her every opportunity to compete in PyeongChang," he said.
"Belle understands the risks involved in attempting to compete in PyeongChang but we will support her in every way possible."
Brockhoff crashed out of the 2014 Olympics in the semi-finals.
