Injured Killingworth out of Sydney Sevens

Boyd Killingworth has been ruled out of Australia's Rugby Sevens squad for this weekend's world series round in Sydney due to a dislocated shoulder.

Australia's already injury-depleted men's Sevens squad have suffered another blow with Boyd Killingworth ruled out of this weekend's Sydney tournament after dislocating his shoulder.

Killingworth was injured in what appeared to be an innocuous tackle while scoring a first-half try during their loss to South Africa in the pool stage of the Wellington Sevens on Saturday.

The bruising Killingworth's omission isn't the only injury to hit the Australian camp, with skipper Ed Jenkins also staying on the sidelines for another round of the world series because of an ongoing shoulder injury.

Australia's coach Andy Friend said on Tuesday that he was still awaiting injury reports for Sam Myers (shoulder) and Alex Gibbon (ankle) after both were forced from the field in Wellington.

Lewis Holland has already been ruled out for the year with an achilles injury while Nick Malouf, Tom Lucas, Jesse Parahi and John Porch are also all battling injuries.

The inexperienced Australians, who finished 10th in last weekend's New Zealand tournament, were overwhelmed by more seasoned sides.

"Obviously you don't want to be finishing where we're finishing but we all understand where we're at as a squad," Friend said.

Only two players in the current squad, James Stannard and Henry Hutchison, were in Australia's team for last year's Rio Olympics.

"It's a lot of new faces ... and Sevens takes time to get combinations. But in saying that, it's not an excuse," Friend said.

Friend was looking on the bright side, with the injuries opening the way for Brenden Quinn, Liam McNamara and Lachlan Anderson to potentially make their debuts for Australia on Saturday.
