Former world No.1 Garbine Muguruza says she will be fit for the Sydney International, despite suffering a leg injury during Spain's tie against France at the Hopman Cup in Perth.
Spain's Muguruza beat Alize Cornet in straight sets on Friday, but was unable to team up with David Ferrer for the mixed-doubles dead rubber.
Muguruza, currently ranked 18th in the world, left the court when leading Cornet 3-0 in the first set to receive treatment and returned eight minutes later with strapping on her left thigh.
She went on to win the first set after which Cornet also received treatment on her back.
The Spaniard looked set for an easy win when she again jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second set and although she did drop one service game, she claimed a 6-1 6-3 victory.
The dual grand slam champion thinks the pain was a result of a tough week on the court.
"I work hard, as well with matches and the whole week. So, today I was a little bit tired. I just felt a little pain in my quad and I thought, you know what, protect it a little bit," she said.
"I kept fighting and kept playing."
The Sydney tournament is her last warm-up event before the Australian Open.
It starts on Sunday, so with two or three days of physio before her first match, the 25-year-old is confident she will be able to play.
Her win over Cornet was her only victory of the round robin tournament, having lost to world No.2 Angelique Kerber in three sets and Australia's Ashleigh Barty in two.
Muguruza said she leaves Perth happy with the start to her summer.
"I came to have good matches and be competitive and I think I got it. You always want to win all of them, but I found what I was looking for."
Veteran Spanish former world No.3 Ferrer also finished his Hopman Cup with a victory, claiming a 6-4 6-7 (7-5) 7-6 (7-2) win over France's former world No.10 Lucas Pouille in just under three hours.
Pouille made it tough on himself with his 58 unforced errors, opposed to Ferrer's 37.
The victory ends a successful tournament for Ferrer, who will play only five more tournaments before he retires, including next week's ASB Classic in Auckland.
He beat Australia's Matt Ebden in straight sets and lost to Germany's Alexander Zverev, but extended him to three.
Neither Spain, nor France qualified for Saturday night's final.
