Injured Pies stake claims for AFL recalls

Midfielder Adam Treloar is doing a lot right as he tries to return from his rare double-hamstring injury.

Adam Treloar's bid to return for the start of the AFL finals series is impressive, even though it is unlikely to succeed.

Collingwood teammate Jeremy Howe says the midfielder continues to do a lot right as Treloar returns from the rare double hamstring injury he suffered in round 14.

Coach Nathan Buckley has said already this week that Treloar is a possible, but unlikely, recall for Saturday week's qualifying final against West Coast.

"If you asked him, he'd be playing," Howe said of Treloar.

"Given the tendon injury, speed was probably the only issue that was going to be holding him back and he's ticked off max speed.

"So it's just a matter of getting the body of work in now.

"The fitness is up, he's doing 12km sessions and that's not far off game time."

Assuming Treloar continues to make progress, it will be a matter of him trying to convince the Collingwood medical staff that he is ready for the Eagles.

Howe looks certain to return from the quad muscle surgery he needed after being injured in the round-19 loss to Richmond.

Fellow defender Tyson Goldsack has made a speedy return from his pre-season knee reconstruction and will continue to stake his claim for selection this weekend with a second VFL match.

"He's just like a kid again, he's really been enjoying his footy," Howe said of Goldsack's comeback.

The injury-plagued Colllingwood defence would welcome the experience that Howe and Goldsack have.

"His (Goldsack's) experience is second-to-none, especially in the backline, where we probably lack a little bit," Howe said.

"But in saying that, where we lack the experience we make it up with enthusiasm and energy."
