Injury has forced a premature end to Joe Tomane's time at the Brumbies and puts in doubt his chances of playing for the Wallabies in this year's Rugby Championship.
The star winger has been ruled out for up to eight weeks with a fractured leg, suffered on Saturday in his comeback from an 11-week layoff in Canberra club rugby.
Tomane hadn't played since round nine of the Super Rugby season, when he injured his knee against the Crusaders.
It means he won't play for the Brumbies again, with the 26-year-old joining French club Montpellier next season.
"This is a tough pill to swallow, there's no doubt," Tomane said on Monday.

"Unfortunately these things happen in rugby and I won't get to farewell everyone the way I would've liked, but that's how it goes sometimes.
"The Brumbies mean the world to me and I'll now get to join our fans in cheering the boys on for the rest of the season.
"I still believe this team has what it takes to win the title this year, and I'll be doing everything I can to help out the players, in whatever way I can."
Tomane didn't play in any of the Wallabies' Test losses to England last month and will miss Australia's first two matches against New Zealand in Sydney and Wellington.
If all goes well, he could be back in time for the Wallabies round three Rugby Championship clash with South Africa in Brisbane on September 5.
Tomane finishes five seasons at the Brumbies with 68 caps and 25 tries.
"While everyone is devastated for Joe's season to end this way, we know he has a huge future with the game and hope to one day see him again in Australian Rugby," Brumbies interim chief executive Phil Thomson said.
The Australian conference-leading Brumbies play the Western Force in the final match of the regular season at GIO Stadium on Saturday.
