Injury forces Meares out of team sprint

Double Olympic champion Anna Meares will not contest the team sprint at track cycling's World Cup in Cambridge after injuring her back.

A back injury has forced two-time Olympic champion Anna Meares to withdraw from team sprint qualifying at the track cycling World Cup in Cambridge.

A team spokesman said the 32-year-old Australian tweaked her back in training this week, and has been replaced by Stephanie Morton.

Morton will combine with Kaarle McCulloch in Friday's qualifying ahead of Saturday's finals.

A decision is yet to be made whether Meares, who won sprint gold at the London Olympics and the 500m time trial eight years earlier in Athens, will race in the keirin on Sunday.
