Australia will be without nine players from this year's World Twenty20 campaign when they try to turn their T20 fortunes around against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
A mix of poor form and injury is responsible for just six of the 15 being available for the two-match series, which opens at Pallekele Stadium.
David Warner will captain the side with Steve Smith still resting in Sydney, while Josh Hazlewood has also been flown home ahead of the Australian summer.
Usman Khawaja, Mitch Marsh and Andrew Tye have been omitted after varying T20 tournaments, while Ashton Agar (shoulder) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (back) are unavailable through injury.
Shane Watson has also since retired.
The No.6 ranked Aussies also copped a double blow when Aaron Finch broke his finger while fielding in Sunday's final one-dayer, while Chris Lynn was ruled out with a dislocated shoulder sustained in a fielding drill in the warm-up.
However they will be bolstered by the late inclusion of George Bailey, who will stay on for the first T20 after striking 270 runs at 67.5 in the one-day series.
Matthew Wade has also been added to the Australian 13-man squad as a batsman.
Australia have not beaten Sri Lanka since 2010 in the shortest form of the game, having lost to them in their past five clashes.
However they have not met since January 2013, since which both teams have failed to make it out of the group stages at the most recent World T20 in India.
The Sri Lankans have also slipped to eighth in the world rankings, having won just two of their past 10 T20 internationals.
They'll also be without Angelo Matthews for the series who has a calf injury, while Tillakaratne Dilshan's retirement has carried over to the shortest form of the game.
The second and final match of the T20 series will then played on Friday in Colombo.
