Four prison officers have been attacked by inmates in a Victorian jail.
Barwon Prison is in lockdown after the serious assault on Thursday afternoon saw three of the four officers taken to hospital for treatment.
"Corrections Victoria can confirm that a serious assault on four prison officers occurred around 4 this afternoon at Barwon Prison," Kim Healey told AAP on Thursday night.
"Victoria Police are investigating and the prison is now in lockdown."
The severity of injuries and what triggered the attack is not known.
