Ins and outs of the Queensland budget

The Palaszczuk government's fourth budget, and Jackie Trad's first as treasurer, prioritises infrastructure spending and jobs.

A snapshot of the Queensland budget:

SURPLUS

A $1.512 billion operating surplus posted in 2017/18, while a $148 million surplus is forecast for 2018/19

DEBT

Set to hit $83 billion by 2021/22

WHERE THE MONEY IS SPENT

$45.8 billion infrastructure program

$18.3 billion health funding

$14.1 billion for education

$5.6 billion is rebates and other measures to ease cost of living

$330 million for Great Barrier Reef programs

WHERE THE MONEY COMES FROM

Four new "luxury" taxes to raise $163 million a year

New Waste Levy of $70 a tonne to raise $100 million in its first year

$4 billion in resource royalties, around a billion dollars more than expected.

"Debt is stable, it is sustainable, and it is responsibly funding much-needed infrastructure for our communities and for our economy."
