In July 2009, shortly after news of attacks on Indian students in Victoria became widespread, Insight investigated whether attacks against overseas students were racially motivated.

In addition to stories of international students being targeted for robberies and violent attacks, Insight explored claims of exploitation by dodgy educational agents, and of sub-standard services offered by Australian institutions.

More worryingly, Insight explored the idea that there is a dramatic under-reporting of attacks and exploitation, as foreign students fear making waves will cause them to jeapordise their chances of gaining permanent residency in Australia.

Amoung the guests on the show were a number of Indian students, officials from private educational institutions and Indian community members.
