Australia has signed a deal with 30 other countries to swap notes on the tax information of multinational companies.

The federal government hopes the agreement will help the Australian Tax Office ensure companies are paying their fair share.

Under the deal signed overnight in Paris, the tax office will get access to country-by-country reports with information about companies' transactions, income and tax paid and transfer pricing policies.
