As international scammers try to cash in on the Queensland flood disaster by swindling people out of money through bogus donation sites fake calls and emails police warn naive donors may lose more than money their online identity and bank and credit details.

Detective Superintendent Brian Hay of the fraud and corporate crime group says anyone who has fallen victim to such a group should cancel the account they used immediately.

The scammers are also likely to target victims in surveys trapping them into revealing what they have lost and asking them for their bank and insurance information.
