Somalia's new Finance Minister is Mohamed Adan Ibrahim "Fargeti", a Somali-Australian from Sydney.

He's a member of the cabinet just approved by the national parliament, as the country battles ongoing unrest involving rival clans - and with Al-Shabab militants still in control of large parts of the country.

The new Finance Minister says Somalia is making progress towards restoring security ahead of elections scheduled for next year - and he's hoping Australia can help.

He spoke with Hassan Jama from SBS Radio's Somali language program.
