The 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris have both been moved forward one week, the local organising committee has confirmed.
The Olympics will now take place from July 26 to August 11 and the Paralympics will run from 28 August to September 8.
The decision, which was made by the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) executive board on Wednesday, will bring the first half of the Paralympics into the school summer holidays, which should help with logistics and help ticket sales.
In a statement, Paris 2024's organising committee explained that the IOC and its Paralympic counterpart the IPC had "expressed reservations" about the original dates, particularly the second week of the Paralympics.
Having conducted a "comprehensive study" of the impact of a change in schedule, Paris 2024's new dates have been welcomed by the IPC and now approved by the IOC at its pre-Winter Games meeting in PyeongChang.
The changes are subject to approval from the various sports, although that should be a formality.
