IOC president Bach arrives in South Korea

The countdown to the Winter Olympics continues with the arrival of IOC president Thomas Bach in South Korea.

International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach arrived in South Korea, 10 days ahead of the opening of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

"It is a great pleasure finally arriving in Korea and to look forward to these Olympic Winter Games with great anticipation," Bach said as he arrived at Incheon international airport near Seoul.

Bach said he was going to take a high-speed train to Pyeongchang with Lee Hee Beom, the president of the 2018 Games, "to make sure everything is going well."

Bach is expected to meet athletes from South Korea's Olympic team and inspect competition sites as well as the two athletes' villages.

A meeting of the IOC executive is also scheduled ahead of the Games' opening ceremony.

Almost 3,000 athletes from 92 countries are expected to take part in the Games which will be held February 9-25.
