The country has the ability to enrich Uranium, the substance needed to fuel nuclear reactors and create a nuclear bomb.

The UN security council and the United States have sanctions in place against Iran in a bid to force Iran to open up its nuclear activities to further inspection. Most recently the European Union said none of its companies would be able to import oil from Iran, striking at the heart of the county's economy.
