Trade Minister Steve Ciobo has exhorted a group of Iranian business leaders in Tehran to seek commercial ties with Australian companies.
"They are looking for partners," Mr Ciobo told a gathering at the Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.
Mr Ciobo led a group of more than 20 companies from the agribusiness, mining, energy, healthcare and education sectors to Tehran on a trade mission seeking inroads to an emerging market.
At a conference before dozens of Iranian business officials, the minister introduced the Australians by asking them to stand up in the crowd and identify themselves for the networking event afterwards.
Mr Ciobo also encouraged the Iranians to invest in Australia and seek out expansion opportunities, saying the best trade relationships promoted a win-win outcome.
Later the minister, wrapping up the two-day visit, described it as a worthwhile mission which helped create inroads for Australian firms and allowing some to establish important contacts.
"They've all mentioned they've been inundated with ... opportunities," he told AAP in Tehran.
The signing of three different memoranda of understandings during the trip would help set the scene for future economic ties, he added.
