An Iranian actress has reportedly been sentenced to a year in jail and 90 lashes for her role in a film critical of the Islamic republic.
Iranian opposition website Kalameh.com announced that Marzieh Vafamehr, the co-star of a South Australian film-production, "My Tehran for Sale", had been sentenced following her June arrest, Britain's Telegraph newspaper reported.
The film is shot on location in Iran and focuses on the bans imposed on theatre work, according to IMDB.
Jointly-funded by the South Australian Film Corporation and the Adelaide Film Festival, the film's co-producer Kate Croser told the Adelaide Advertiser that it was unclear whether critical commentary in the West would hamper the planned appeal to the sentence.

'There is an appeal which could be lengthy and the family may still believe that public comment will be unhelpful because they are going through all the official channels,' she told the paper.
Opposition Iran Green Voice reported at the time of her arrest that scenes showing Vafamehr without a veil were likely to have angered authorities.
