Ten people were killed in twin bombings outside a shopping mall in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, local police and medical sources say, lowering an initial death toll of 40.

Thirty others were injured in the attack that took place late on Friday in central Baghdad, the sources said.

The attack started with a suicide bomber who blew himself up with an explosive vest, police said.

Shortly after, a car bomb went off at a gate of the mall. A large number of cars, parked in the mall garage, were set ablaze as a result.

No one has claimed responsibility.

The assault occurred as people were shopping for Eid al-Adha, a major Muslim holiday that starts on Monday.
