An Iraqi man has been found guilty of people smuggling after a 10-week trial in a Perth court, but a jury found him not guilty on one charge and could not reach a verdict on another.
In May 2009, Hadi Ahmadi, 34, became the first person to be extradited to Australia from Indonesia on people smuggling charges.
He pleaded not guilty to charges of illegally assisting more than 900 asylum seekers to reach Christmas Island on four boats between March and August 2001.
In the District Court in Perth on Wednesday, a jury found Ahmadi guilty on two charges, but found him not guilty on a third and could not reach a verdict on a fourth.
