Irate Iranian tennis player chases umpire

An Iranian tennis player could face tough sanctioning after footage emerged of him chasing an umpire from a court during a Pro Circuit match in Turkey.

An Iranian tennis player could cop a hefty suspension for an ugly incident involving an umpire on the Pro Circuit in Turkey.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) are investigating Majid Abedini over a "major offence of aggravated behaviour" after video emerged of him chasing an umpire off the court in a qualifying match at Antalya.

The footage, uploaded to YouTube, has already been viewed 112,000 times in less than four days.

The 29-year-old was ruled to have defaulted the match, and has been provisionally suspended pending a further sanction.

"Mr Abedini has been provisionally suspended in accordance with the ITF Welfare Policy and is further subject to an investigation into a possible Player Major Offence of Aggravated Behaviour," an ITF statement read.

"Following this investigation, any additional sanction will be announced."
