Australian-born Irving's efforts were aided by 18 points from Jaylen Brown and 15 from Marcus Morris for Boston, who remain a game up on Toronto atop the East standings after the Raptors' win in New York.
Otto Porter Jr. had 27 points and Bradley Beal netted 18 for the Wizards, who were playing their seventh straight game without John Wall after the All-Star point guard underwent left knee surgery.
The Celtics' other Australian, Aron Baynes, had limited game time and only scored two points.
Elsewhere, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 20 points and Brandon Ingram added 19 as the Los Angeles Lakers rolled to a 106-81 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
