IS kills 31 in Syria wedding blast

IS has claimed responsibility for a bomb blast that killed 31 people at a wedding in Syria's north east.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for an attack on a wedding party in Syria that killed 31.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the Monday night attack on a Kurdish wedding in the north eastern city of al-Hasaka killed 31 people and left at least 80 injured.

In the IS statement, the authenticity of which could not be verified, IS claimed a suicide attacker armed with light weapons and an explosives belt infiltrated a wedding attended by alleged Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) members.

According to IS, at least 40 people were killed and more than 100 injured, including several Kurdish leaders.

The area is under control of the Syrian Democratic Forces, an armed Kurdish and Arabic alliance backed by the US.
