There is "no credible threat" to the United States from IS, President Barack Obama's top counterterrorism adviser has said.
Lisa Monaco, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism told cable television channel MSNBC that US officials were still vigilant against potential threats from IS militants.
She said in the interview there was "no credible threat reporting against Washington D.C." or other parts of the United States.
Monaco said the US government conducted rigorous reviews of Syrian refugee applicants, noting that it had looked at some 20,000 Syrian refugees referred by the United Nations since fiscal year 2011.
Of those refugees, the United States has interviewed some 7000 people and accepted fewer than 2000, Monaco told MSNBC.
